2012 10th Anniversary O’Neill Pleasure Jam presented by Opel
The infamous Pleasure Jam, that takes place like each year up at Austria’s Dachstein glacier is over and even though the windy weather could have been a little bit more gentle to the riders, everybody enjoyed one rad snowboarding party weekend, that also gave a bit more officially the start of the new 12-13 contest season, as the Pleasure Jam counts with 4 big TTR Stars, to one of the more recognized events. Last year’s UK champion Aimee Fuller, could successfully defend her title and repeat #1 podium spot in this year’s edition. On Friday, 60 male and 20 female riders took their chance to qualify for Saturday’s Finals and threw themselves over that double kicker line with 12m and 16m jumps, followed by an O’Neill Signature Jib Section and an ender jib section by Red Bull, including a wallride-funbox combo. This year’s Pleasure Jam wasn’t only a 4 Star World Snowboard Tour comp, but also the inaugural event of the QParks Snowboard Tour of this new 12-13 season.
After 2 qualify runs for men and women, young 17-year old Finnish ripper Kalle Jarvilehto came out first for the men, saying “I kept my promise. I told my friends, if I stick the first run, I am going for the Backside 1080 in the second. And it definitely paid off!”
Among the ladies it was another grom, but from the Czech Republic this time to make some noise and win the qualification round on Friday. 15-year old Katerina Vojackova on her Friday debut: “I didn’t expect this. It really was surprising. I thought I would do ok, but first place is really great. Now I am going to spend the prize money and go shopping.”
Bottom line: 8 girls and 18 dudes qualified for Saturday’s Finals and had to face 9 invited female pros and 16 on the men side now.
On the ladies side it was again Aimee Fuller (UK), to take #1 podium as we already said and also won a nice $ 2’000 prize purse plus an invitation to the TTR 5Star Red Bull Nanshan Open 2013 in China. Among the men it was Eric Beauchemin (USA) to take the win and a $ 4’500 prize money back home in front of Werni Stock (AUT) and Jamie Nicholls (UK), who came out 3rd but also won Best Trick with a Frontside Tailbluntslide 450 Out and won a Surf Trip to Bali, all included.
