2013 Billabong Air & Style Recap

2013 Billabong Air & Style Recap

The most prestigious Big Air event in contest history, celebrated on this weekend its 20th anniversary in Innsbruck. For the special occasion of this year’s edition, the organizers divided the event into 2 days. On Friday the Burn Style Session  was on, that was up to some nice memorable heroes of ours, that accompanied this event’s history from day#1 till today including Terje Haakonsen, Mike Basich, Jamie Lynn, Stefan Gimpl, David Benedek and Marko Grilc to name a few. The name is program and the older folks were up to throw out some nice Methods, Backside 180 and other stylish tricks they got in their bag. Overall it was nice to see all these dudes on one event out of the sudden, a fact which they also must have enjoyed pretty much. In the end it was Slovenian rider Marko Grilc to take that stylish victory.

On day#2 the main competition of the heavy senders was on and the Quadriple circus could start. Exciting heats and heavy tricks were the main difference between last night’s and today’s competition, plus one important fact: The snow. It was dumping non-stop on that night so that nobody was really hyped on throwing out Triple Corks like on X Games or in Davos on the Evolution for example. In the end it was Eric Willet (USA) to make first spot on the podium (SW BS 12 Mute),  in front of Seb Toots (2nd – CAN – Cab Double Cork 12 Melon), Aleksander Østreng (3rd – NOR – BS 12 Mute) and Mark McMorris (4th – CAN – Cab 12 Indy). By placing 2nd on this year’s Billabong Air & Style, did young Toots not only show again his major skills on the big jumps that we all know, but could also take that World Snowboard Tour’s Big Air title back home. All in all, just winners!
