Boost Mobile SurfSho | Final
The Finals of the Boost SurfSho were just great last night. 26- year-old Josh Kerr (AUS), impressed the judges at Bondi Beach and could take the win, taking down young guns like Jack Freestone (AUS), or Julian Wilson (AUS), but also sending a clear signal to the big names of the WCT. Once again, Kerr reaffirmed, that he is the man in aerial surfing. Competing with the best international surfers, Kerr defeated ASP World Tour’s no. 2 Jordy Smith (ZAF), as well as Taj Burrow (AUS) and two-time event champion Owen Wright (AUS), taking home the biggest prize money that has ever been given on an aerial surf competition. 25’000 USD.
„I’ve had an awesome time down at Bondi these past few days.My film premiere last night and now this title along with $25k, it’s as good as a weekend gets. Great location, great crowd, great day!“, Kerr said.
His closest competitor on that night was Junior World Champion Jack Freestone, who scored an 8.0 for the same trick, followed by Julian Wilson with a 7.23 score.
Kerr added concerning the competition: „I thought Jack Freestone had the title there for a while, but I lucked out with that winning wave and in tough conditions did just enough to take the title. These young kids are coming up through the ranks and all gunning for you so it challenges me to keep things fresh and come up with new tricks. The win helps keep my name out there and is a real confidence boost for the rest of the year.“
The surf has offered clean conditions, with less than 1m waves and more than 30’000 fans on the beach, watching the final.
