Burton Raildays FULL REPORT

Know the Roppongi Hills Arena? You don’t? No worries, we didn’t neither before the Burton Raildays went down there in Japan.  Over 3’000 spectators who came for best competitive urban snowboarding, a hard setup and some of the world’s gnarliest jibbers including Forest Bailey, Jonah Owen, Burton riders Ethan Deiss, Zak Hale and Mark Sollors, but also Euro rippers like Jamie Nicholls and Dominik Wagner is what this Asian Railjam event had to offer. Not enough? Okay, we put one on top and give you jib icon Jeremy Jones as a judge and a bigass prize purse, how is that feeling now? And the best thing to come for you people at home: You could follow the event live from B’s webcast!

18 riders in total competed in a 45-minute jam session that was filled with plenty of action and non-stopping rain unfortunately, what couldn’t keep the riders from giving their very best steeze on the metal. Six riders moved on to the finals, where Jamie Nicholls (GBR), Forest Bailey (USA), Zak Hale (USA), Jonah Owen (USA), Brandon Hobush (USA) and Dominik Wagner (AUT) tried to bring it on to get payed. Overall each rider had three chances to pull off his best run in the finals, with the highest scoring run taking top honors of course.

In the end, it was Forest Bailey (USA) who won the entire event with his second run: starting on the closeout rail, 50-50 transfer to Lip-Slide on the down rail. Jamie Nicholls (GBR) came in 2nd place with his first run featuring a Cab 360 to SW 50-50 on the down rail. And there was Jonah Owen (USA) who claimed 3rd place on his third run on the closeout rail with a 50-50 to FS 360 Melon Grab to flat.

Forest Bailey on his victory, “I couldn’t be more happy.  I broke my board in the quals, and the board I borrowed wasn’t my own, but I pulled through and made it all happen. It was a great time.”
