Matt Meola wins Innersection
Last night at the Komune Resort on the Gold Coast, young Hawaiian Matt Meola won the Innersection video competitionandwent home with 100’000 US $ prizing money.
Innersection is a surfing film concept, created by Taylor Steel. He is one of the best and famous film directors in surfing and was one of the firsts, to film with Kelly Slater, Rob Machado or Shane Dorian and is responsible for great films like Momentum, Shelter and also the Drive Thru episodes.
The concept is about creating interaction between surfers and fans on the Internet. Meanwhile the riders post their own clips online, people on the web rate them. After the judges (most active members in commenting and rating) make their Top-10 lists (finalists) month after month, it is up to you. The five clips with the most ratings, make it on the final DVD of the Innersection movie. So you have then basically, a fresh new surf film, consisting of parts YOU liked the most. Afterwards, during the rest of the season, the clips can be improved and edited of course, before going on the final DVD. The winners will be somewhere taken on a surf trip, and then do it all over again for the next months.
The final DVD, which will be dropped in December this year, will include then the top 20 sections, from four seasonal rounds. From these 20, fans and watchers need to decide, which section is the best and wins the 100’000 US $ prizing money.
We are glad to see such progressive and innovative video competitions, especially because projects like Innersection are not under some big brand sponsor and are totally free in their way of being, the way YOU like it to be. The happiest guy on earth yesterday, was propably Matt Meola from Kauai Island (USA), who won the competition with his section, in front of other pro surfers, such as Kelly Slater, or Ozzy Wright. Congrats to him! Check out his clip here.
