Who will be the fastest surfer on the Tour?
Thanks to technology‘s fast development and progression, Quiksilver and Roxy will be the first ones of the WCT to introduce something completely new to surfing. During the Quiksilver and the Roxy Pro events, (February 26th at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast), 34 of the best surfers on the planet will be able, to measure their speed on the boards. The obvious question will be, who is going to be the fastest?
How? Pro surfers will have the choice to integrate into their lycra, a GPS device (developed by „VX Sport„), which measures their speed on any waves, turns and barrels.
The data will be send to a computer, which posts the speed in real time. This invention, enriches future surf events in entertainment and competition and will create more suspense and excitement for the fans of course.
Although the riders will not be obligated to wear the GPS device, they will be incited to do, by a nice 2500 $ prizing money for the fastest guy of the Quiksilver Pro.
Favourites and potential competitors for this new category will be for sure surfers like Dane Reynolds, Taj Burrow, Mick Fanning or Joel Parkinson for example.
Quiksilver is again, giving something new and exciting back to the sport and by doing so, pushing surfing one more step forward. It should be quite interesting following press, industry‘s, fans and rider‘s stance on this in future. Stay tuned and don‘t miss these first events when it comes up to speed, for the first time in a surfing competition!
