Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) and Eric Willett (USA) won yesterday the Slopestyle Finals at the Burton US Open. Both riders took home a huge 20’000 USD cash, as well as important points for the Burton Global Open Series and the TTR Top-10 rankings, which will be known today! Being their first-time, winning an US Open Title in their career, yesterday’s competition was quite special to them.
“It felt really amazing to win today,” said Enni. “The Burton US Open is such a big event, so it really means a lot to win here. Even though the weather was difficult, the course was great and super fun to ride.”
Eric Willet added, “It was awesome to win. This is only my second time competing in the US Open, so to come here and win is great. Even with the tough weather, the level of riding was insane.”
In the women’s finals, the ladies had three runs to prove their skills. From very beginning, Enni rode strong, with a winning run, including a FS 360 Indy grab, a BS 540 Indy grab and a Cab 540 Mute grab on the kickers. This year’s TTR champion Jamie Anderson (USA), kept close to Enni, throughout the entire competition. Jamie’s highest scoring run was less than two points behind Enni’s and included a standout SW BS 540 Indy grab on the first kicker. 17-year-old rider Silje Norendal (NOR), came in 3rd place and was thrilled by the fact, to earn a spot on the US Open podium for the first time.
On the men’s side, the competition was tight and came down to the second runs. For a few minutes, it looked like Mark McMorris (CAN) might take the win with a tough run, including a Cab Double Underflip 900, followed by a BS Double Cork 1080 on the jumps. Then Eric Willett (USA) dropped in and took over the lead. He put down an insane run, including FS 270 Boardslide, a BS Tailslide 450 out, a Cab Underflip 900, Tailslide 270 out to FS 900 Tail grab and a SW BS Double Cork 1080 Mute grab. No comment on that please.

Kjersti Buaas (NOR) and Charles Reid (CAN) made it and took back home a 10’000 USD cash. In total 43 men and 14 women, enjoyed an unique setup never before seen in yeserday’s Jam Final. A bridge – tunnel combo, double quarterpipes, an urban wallride and plenty of rails, the possibilities were endless to prove creativity and pure freestyle snowboarding.
For 90 minutes, riders like Ethan Deiss (USA), Zak Hale, Yale Cousino (USA), Danny Davis (USA), Charles Reid (CAN), Jason Dubois, Sebastien Toutant (CAN), Jamie Anderson (USA), Gabi Viteri (USA), Kjersti Buaas (NOR) and Spencer O’Brien (USA) dropped into the course and rode a fun and relaxed competition in a jam session format. The festival vibe of this year’s US Open was in full effect with a big crowd cheering for the riders as they pulled off a huge variety of tricks like Cab 50-50s, a huge BS Air from Jack Mitrani (USA), McTwists, Methods, SW BS Rodeo 7s, laid-out Backflips, Boardslides to 270 out, Alley-Oop Front 7 Rodeos and more. Even the announcers were speechless because so much was going on at once. Charles Reid took the lead halfway through with a Front Flip over the Cannon Gap and he hung on to the number one slot throughout the Jam.
“I’m super stoked on the event,” said Charles Reid. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it, and I’m really happy that I did as well as I did.”
Kjersti Buaas took the lead towards the end of the event with a BS Alley-Oop Stalefish. She said the event was amazing because there were features for everyone – from riders who like to ride pipe and street rails to hips and transitions.
