Boost Mobile SurfSho
The Boost Mobile SurfSho was kicked off yesterday night on Bondi Beach, Australia. This special event, focuses certainly on aerial surfing. Riders such as Jordy Smith (ZAF), Josh Kerr (AUS), Julian Wilson (AUS), Owen Wright (AUS) and Taj Burrow (AUS), have been invited and give us an spectactular show on the most crowded beach of Sydney, on this weekend. The concept is quite simple. The best Junior and Open surfer from the qualifications of the first two days, get a wildcard and advance into tonight’s Finals, to compete with the big names of the WCT.
Last night, Ben Godwin (AUS) impressed the judges and everyone else, with his big maneuvers, doing an amazing 8.67 score, out of a possible 10. A big Forehand Air-Reverse and an almost landed Rodeo Flip, contributed to an overall sick performance, which was reason enough to earn a spot in the Finals. Beau Foster (AUS), who could also prove really solid surf rides, succeeded too. How? They added an extra wildcard for this year’s event, being totally two Open surfers in the Finals now. Of the Junior surfers, it was Gabriel Medina (BRA), who came through and will now face the big pros in the finals, including also last year’s title contender Owen Wright and try to get that huge 25’000 USD prizing money.
Quite a special of this event, will be the Wheels Round, formerly known under the name of S-K-A-T-E of skateboarding. The difference is, that a wheel is spun at the start of each heat, determining which tricks the surfers must perform.
